No More Worry

Back in the day, I use to worry constantly about all kinds of things; things that I couldn’t control and things that I could control. In fact, I would lose sleep because I was worrying about something. I could be worrying about how this bill was going to get paid or anything, but I would be up in the middle of the night thinking and worrying. It was very frustrating; especially since, I didn’t see anyone else around me worrying about anything. My husband didn’t worry, even though the same issues that worried me, impacted him. My mom was never a worrier and she seemed to be stress free. I never understood where I got the worrying spirit from and why no one else seemed to worry about anything. It actually used to make me a little angry that I was up worrying and my husband was right next to me sleeping soundly. Actually, I was jealous. I wanted to learn not to worry.

Then, I discovered that God doesn’t want his children to worry. I learned that when you worry, you are actually doubting God and the promises that He has made. So I learned to give my cares and worries to God and let go of the fear and doubt. How did I do this? By meditating on scripture, praying and listening to God.

I learned to receive God’s peace

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

God is telling us not to worry about anything, but in everything, to present all your cares, requests, and worries to God, in prayer. This is a powerful truth. When you present your requests to the Lord, you need to be thankful. Thankful for what God has already brought you through and thankful for what God is going to bring you through. When this became a reality for me, peace overcame me and worry left. Not just any peace, but God’s peace. God’s peace showed me that God was in control and He promised to supply all my needs according to His riches in glory!!

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

I learned to Seek First The Kingdom of God

I meditated on Jesus words in Matthew 6:25-34.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I typed these scriptures in a document and I printed out the document and read it, meditated on it, and confessed it out loud daily until they were planted in my spirit and became real to me. The promises of God became more real than anything I was worrying about. Then, I started living a life of no more worry.

Obviously, there are situations that arise daily that can cause worry and stress. But, instead of worrying, I cast my cares upon the Lord, and I don’t worry about it.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1Peter 5:7

Jesus tells us not to worry. Jesus tells us that worrying does not benefit us, but hinders us and distracts us from where our focus and energies should really be, which is on the Kingdom of God.

When we keep our focus on the Kingdom of God, everything else will fall into place.
